FEILDING STREET LIGHTS

The secretary-manager, Mr. K. W. Eglinton, reported to this afternoon’s meeting of the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board that sales of current for the month of .May had shown an increase of £124/8/compared with the figures for last year. The sales of current for the month were £3073/8/5, and for May of last year £3849/0/5. During the month £l4O/9/4 had been collected for sales and installations, leaving the sum of £4600/0/8 outstanding. The board decided to secure the authority of the Local Bodies Loans Board for the conversion of its loans, and appointed the chairman, Mr. C. G. C. Denner, Mr. M. A. Eliott, and the secre-tary-manager to act in tho matter when authority was received. The secretarymanager recommended that the board should convert its loans so as to be sure of a low rate of interest on the loans until maturity. Consideration was given to a complaint from Failding shopkeepers regarding the community lights not being switched on in Feilding until 6.30 p.m. The board recently decided to charge £2 a year for community lights in Eeilding provided the lights were kept off the peak load, and 65 lights were connected to the supply. The board appointed a committee consisting of the chairman, Mr. C. G. C. Denner, Mr. P. G. Guy, the engineer, Mr. W. A. Waters, and Mr. O. McElroy, to wait on the Eeilding shopkeepers with an instruction from the board that ,if the shopkeepers were not satisfied with the present arrangement they should be offered lighting at the rate of 4/2 a month for the first light, and 3/4 a month for extra lights.

Tournament at Wanganui
Wanganui, June 12.
Ideal weather conditions prevailed for the Wanganui Hockey Association’s six-a-side tournament, held on Saturday. Following are the results of each section: — A section: Star 80, Y.M.C.A. A 1; Old Boys A 2. Y.M.C.A. A 0; Old Boys A 3, Star B 0. B, section: Technical Al, Y.M.C.A. B 0; Hinemoa 80, Y.M.C.A. B 2; Technical A 1, Hinemoa B 2. C section : Wesley A 2, Technical B 1; Hinemoa A2, Technical B 0; Wesley Al, Hinemoa A 3. D section: Star A 0. Old Boys B 2; Technical C 1, Star A 3; Old Boys B 2, Technical C 0. Semi-finals: Old Boys A, winners of the A section, played off with Technical A, winners of the B section. Technical won by 1-0. Hinemoa A, winners of the G section, played off with Old Boys B, winners of the D section. Hinemoa A won by 2-1. Final: This was played between Technical College A and Hinemoa A. Throughout the game was keenly contested, and provided an excellent exhibition of hockey. At time the score was two-all. Extra time was nlayed, and Hinemoa scored asrain. Wairarapa Competitions Masterton, June 12. Chief interest, in the Wairarapa Hockey Association’s championships, which were continued in ideal weather on Saturday, centred on the men’s match between Kiwi A and Dalefield. The game was fast and interesting, and resulted in a win for Kiwi, by two goals to one. This was Dalefield’s first defeat this season. Following are the results: — Men’s Ganics. Kiwi A 2. beat Dalefield 1; Y.M.C.A. Stags 4, beat Featherston 3; Carterton 8, beat Kiwi B 3; Valley 9, beat Y.M.C.A. Stars 1. Women’s Results. Senior.—High School 5, beat To Ore Ore 1; Old Girls 3, beat Wairarapa Higli School Old Girls 1; Gladstone 12, beat Carterton nil; Parkvale 3, beat Kiwi 1; Magpies 8, beat Featherston nil; Greytown 10, beat Martinborough nil. Junior.—Old Girls A 2, beat Gladstone 1: Old Girls B 5, beat Excelsior 1; Huesher 3. beat Solway 1; High School A 5, beat High School B 1. Feilding Association Feilding, June 12. The following are the results of the matches played in the Feilding Hockey Association's competitions ou Saturday: Men’s games: Wanderers beat Tokorangi, 2-1; Carnarvon drew with Stanway, 2-2; Colyton beat Pirates, 5-1. Women's games: Carnarvon beat High Schoo] Oid Girls, 5-1; Ohakea drew with Colyton, 1-1. SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mrs. D. Jones, of Raugitumau, Masterton, is a visitor to Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. A. Hindmarsh, of Wanganui, who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. S. Bolton, “Oete,” Pahiatua, are now visiting Shannon. Mrs. H. Sowry and Miss Ifl. Sowry. of Makomako, Pahiatua, are visiting New Plymouth. Mrs. J. H. Dean, Tararaua Street, Pahiatua, and her grand-daughter, Miss Dean, are on a visit to Auckland. Miss K. Wenham, of Hukanui, Eketahuna, is on a visit to Carterton. Miss Aila Beetham, of Masterton, is spending a holiday in Woodville. Mrs, A.
