Wrestling on the Air
Sir, —Writing on behalf of several country listeners, I would ask you to ascertain from the New Zealand Broadcasting Board the reason why they do not broadcast the wrestling bouts held in Wellington, and if we may hope for this in the near future. It cannot be on account of permission being withheld, as 2ZW has been putting these over, and if they can get permission to broadcast the bouts, the board should have no trouble to do likewise. I know of several people who regularly journey to Wellington to see the matches, and who received their first introduction to wrestling “over the air.” Our point is this: We subscribe to our Broadcasting Board, and, rightly. I think, expect to get our broadcasting' wants supplied through this medium. Whether a majority of those who listen to 2YA as their main station would wish for the wrestling broadcast or not. I cannot say. Perhaps this letter will induce an expression of opinion, but I do, confidently, state that an absolute majority of my acquaintances wish for 2YA to put them over. I am ’ etC ” K.O.P. Carterton. June 8. . . . (When the question contained in tti' first sentence of the above letter was referred to the Broadcasting Board, it was stated Hint the bonrd preferred to make no comment.]
