Local Authorities Confer DEPUTATION APPOINTED By Telegraph.—Press Association. VVairoa, June 10. At a conference of delegates from local rating authorities from East Cape to Woodville held here to-day for the purpose of bringing before the notice of members of Parliament the desperate conditions the rating authorities are now in, the following resolutions were carried: — .
"That all occupied Crown lands, in eluding lands being farmed by the Crown, be ratable for all rates.” “That statutory provisions for the collection of rates in respect of lands owned or occupied by private persons be applicable to such Crown lands.” “That all rates levied on lands mortgaged to the Crown and to any of its departments be collectable in the same manner and with the same statutory powers as the rates levied on lands mortgaged by private persons.” “That a local body shall have the right to set off against moneys owing to the Crown or any of its departments all rates owing to the local body in respect of Crown lands or lands mortgaged to the Crown or to any of its departments.” It was further decided to circularise all parliamentarians on the above lines, and a deputation of five was appointed to proceed to Wellington with a view to placing the position before the heads of the Government.
