ON HEAVY GROUNDS
Hockey at Karori HUIA’S FIRST DEFEAT Grounds at Karori Park on Saturday were very heavy, and the standard of hockey was not very impressive. In the senior A section, Karori had little difficulty in beating Wesley. Wesley’s only goal was scored within the first few minutes of the first spell, Kelly sending the ball past Moore, who imagined it had been hit from outside the circle. Karori soon retaliated and kept their opponents on the qui vive for the remainder of the game. Wesley occasionally looked dangerous, but Karori were always equal to the occasion. Despite the fact that they were badly beaten, Wesley made quite a good showing. Huia, who have not been* defeated previously this season, went down to Varsity in a clean, even game. Both teams were playing brightly, and Varsity’s combination was good. At half-time the score was even. Huia had a territorial advantage during the greater part of the second spell, but were unable to penetrate the Varsity defence. The Wellington-Hutt game was to have been played at Lower Hutt, but Wellington refused to take the field, and Hutt won by default. RESULTS AT A GLANCE Senior A.
