COUNCIL’S VIEWPOINT

Afforestation Scheme Wanganui, June 10. “That no objection will be raised to the land being vested in the Wanganui County Council provided no expense or liability is incurred in so doing.” This motion was carried at the monthly meeting of the Wanganui County Council yesterday in regard to the sand dune afforestation scheme. The chairman, Cr. D. Mackintosh, remarked that the council would not be doing its duty to the ratepayers if they went in for tree-planting at the present juncture. The council’s paramount duty was in providing good roads for the rates collected. The members with one exception concurred with this viewpoint.
