Protest Against Closing RESIDENTS CONCERNED Dominion Special Service. Carterton, June 10. Considerable consteruatiou continues among South Wairarapa residents over the decision of the Wairarapa Hospital Board to close the Greytown Hospital. A further meeting of protest was held at Carterton last evening, when about 130 people attended. The mayor, Mr. W. Fisher, presided, A number of people spoke, all emphatically protesting against the hospital board’s proposal. It was stated that the saving to ratepayers would amount to only about £5 per annum in Greytown, the same amount in Martinborough, and about £7 per annum in Carterton. The following resolution was carried unanimously: “That this large and representative meeting of citizens and settlers of Carterton pledges itself to resist in every way possible tbe hospital board’s proposal to close the South Wairarapa Hospital, and respectfully urges the Minister of Health to veto the. proposal, on the ground that it is not justified either on the score of public ecomomy or efficiency. Further, that delegates from this district be appointed to join with other districts affected to make representations to the Minister ou the subject.” Messrs. W. Tucker and H. Armstrong were appointed as delegates from Carterton to join with other representatives from various parts of the district in meeting the Minister of Health at Greytown.
