English County Cricket YORKSHIRE STULL LEADS By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright London, June 9. In the county cricket matches, Yorkshire, who are leading easily for championship honours, failed for the first time this season to secure maximum points. In a heavy-scoring match with Warwickshire they won on the first innings. Walters, of Worcestershire, is the first batsman to reach 1000 runs for the season. Heavy scoring was general, and numerous centuries were recorded. Bakewell and Sutcliffe both made double centuries, and Kilner, with 197 not out, was unfortunate in not making a similar achievement. .The results are:— Hampshire v. Essex, at_ LeytonHampshire 337 (Arnold 75) and 211 (O'Connor four for 32); Essex 274 (Eastman 93; Boyes six for 91) and 77 for six wickets (O'Connor 115). Essex won by four wickets. Yorkshire v. Warwickshire, at Birmingham.—Yorkshire 591 for six wickets, declared (Sutcliffe 205. Barker 124, Verity 78 not out, Leyland 76); Warwickshire 319 (Kilner 197 not out) and 127 for four wickets. Yorkshire won on the first innings. Leicestershire v. Surrey, at Leicester. —Leicestershire 276 (Armstrong 77, Geary 81; Brown six for 63) and oil for six wickets (Berry 115); Surrey 464 for seven wickets, declared . Barling 128, Squires 150 not out). Surrey won on the first innings. Lancashire v. Sussex, at Manchester. —Lancashire 311 (Eckersley 81 not out) and 69 for two wickets; Sussex 397 for eight wickets, declared (John Langridge 99, James Langridge 85). Sussex won on the first innings. Nottinghamshire v, Northamptonshire, at Northampton.—Nottinghamshire 429 (Keeton 94, Carr 125) and 197 for six wickets; Northamptonshire 521 (Bakewell 246, Liddel 101). _ Northamptonshire won on the first innings. Gloucestershire v. Glamorgan, at Pontypridd.—Gloucestershire 332 (Barnett 154, Dacre 54); Glamorgan 129 (Goddard seven for 48) and 144 (Goddard five for 42). Gloucestershire won by an innings and 89 runs. Worcestershire v. Derbyshire, at Worcester. —Worcestershire 390 (Walters 124) and 55 for three wickets; Derbyshire 303 (Perks five for 50). Worcestershire won on the first innings. WEST INDIAN TEAM Match With Middlesex (Received June 11, 6.30 p.m.) London, June 10. West Indies in their first innings against Middlesex made 382 (Dacosta 67, Griffith 62, Valentine not out oJL Peebles took four wickets for 108. Middlesex in their first innings have lost wo wickets for 14. The match. West Indies v. Somerset, at Taunton, was drawn. The scores were: Somerset. 272 and 323 for nine wickets (Longrigg 67); West Indies. 482 for six wickets, declared (Headley 224 not out, Barrow- 70, Merry 75). M.C.C. BEATS KENT London, June 9. In a match at Lord’s, M.C.C. defeated Kent by 86 runs.
