NOTED CONDUCTOR
Australian Visit Abandoned
Mr. D. O’Connor, now iu AVellington, lias been advised by the Australian Broadcasting Board that the pending visit of Dr. Malcolm Sargent, tiie English conductor, to Australia has been abandoned. Dr. Sargent, who was to leave England for Alelbourne by the Mooltan on June 2, underwent an operation in March, and his progress toward recovery lias not been so rapid as was anticipated.
Mr. O’Connor (who is in New Zealand with Hie Spivakovsky Trio), says it is quite within the bounds of possibility that Hie Australian Broadcasting Board may secure another prominent conductor in Dr. Sargent’s place, but. the upset was greatly to be regretted as much had been done in advance of Dr. Sargent’s visit to spur public interest: in what, promised to be mi interesting musical event.
