MONEY REPAID

Charge of Theft Fails By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, May 3. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty in the hearing of the charge of theft of £97 while a servant against Leonard Mansell Durrail Cummins, formerly an inspector of the Alliance Insurance Company, Christchurch. The defence was that there was no guilty mind, but that the money was only held back. Mr. Justice McGregor, in summing up, said that the money was used by the accused for his own purposes and repaid when suspicion was thrown on him. The repayment was made with a considerable amount of cunning.
