Three City Seats to Labour Three of the four Wellington city seats on the Wellington Harbour Board, on returns from 69 of the 70 booths, went, on first count, to Labour candidates, Mr. P. Fraser, M.P., topping the poll, with Mr. C. H. Chapman, M.P., second. Mr. 11. D. Bennett, a sitting member, and Mr. R. Semple, M.P., are close, and there is a possibility in their cases of changes taking place. C.R. indicates combined Civic League and Ratepayers’ ticket; L. indicates Labour; and 1., independent candidate. An asterisk denotes sitting member. Detailed results:— Fraser, P. harbour dues of £3 and upwards, other than dues on ships. There were two nominees for tlie vacancy, Mr; D. J. McGowan and Mr. Barton Ginger. Mr. McGowan, the sitting member, was elected by 182 votes to 77. Mr. McGowan has already completed ten years’ service on the harbour board. In three instances the retiring members have been re-elected without a contest. They are Messrs. M. A. Eliott and W. L. Fitzherbert, for the Manawatu, Foxton. Feilding, Otaki urea ; Messrs. T. R. Barrer and H. Morrison. for the Wairarapa South area ; and Messrs. C. M. Turrell and \V. 11. Price, representing payers of harbour dues of £3 and upward on British ships.
