Manawatu Polling Light HOSPITAL BOARD SURPRISE Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, May 3. Owing to heavy rain throughout the district to-day there was light, polling at the municipal elections in the various towns. The' Mayor of Palmerston North, Mr. A. E. Mausford, was returned unopposed. Borough Council. In the City Council elections, Messrs. Aitchison, Free, Brown, Cameron, Ilodgens, and Tremaine, sitting members who contested their seats, were returned. The voting was as follows: — R. L. C. Aitchison 3160 W. B. Cameron 3059 11. B. Free 2956 W. H. Brown 2881 W. B. Tennant 2834 G. Tremaine 2823 J. Hodgens 2772 W. Mouldey i 2711 A. A. Langley v 2353 The following candidates were defeated:—J. H. Whyte, 2247; V. Christensen, 1583; P. T. Robinson, 1471; W. Cutler, 1286; A. A. Yule, 1078; W. Wanklyn, 1072. The Hospital Board. In the Palmerston North Hospital Board election Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., lost his seat to Mr. J. Hodgens. The voting was as follows: — A. E. Mausford 3922 R. L. C. Aitchison 2947 Mrs. C. Abraham 2880 J. Hodgens . 2453 The defeated candidates were:—J. A. Nash, M.P., 2247; P. V. Burns, 1574. Mr. Nash had held a seat for many years and his defeat by the Labour ! nominee, Mr. Hodgens, caused some j surprise. FEILDING The Mayor of Feilding, Mr. C. E. Salt and Guy were nominees of the Labour Party. Power and Hospital Boards.

Mr. V. E. Smith was re-elected Feilding representative on the Palmerston North Hospital Board, polling 833 votes to Mr. P. G. Guy’s 426. The sitting member of the Mana-watu-Oroua Power Board, Mr. P. G Guy, was re-elected, polling 724. Mr. V. E. Smith polled 535. FOXTON The Mayor of Foxton, Mr. M. E. Perreau, was returned unopposed, and only the required number of nominations were received for the borough council. The only election was for two representatives on the Foxton Harbour,Board. One pf the sitting members, Mr. M. E. Perreau, lost his seat to Mr. H. W. B. Osborne. The voting was as follows:— H. W. B. Osborne 151 John Ross 112 The defeated candidate is: E. Perreau 86 LEVIN The Mayor of Levin. Mr. P. W. Goldsmith, was elected unopposed. Sixteen nominations were received for nine seats on the Borough Council. Tlie elected council is:— C. S. WAIRARAPA TOWNS

No Elections at Masterton Dominion Special Service. Masterton, May 3. Owing chiefly to a widespread desire to save the expense of a poll, there wore contests in only four of the seven Wairarapa boroughs to-day. Polling was particularly good, especially at Featherston, where interest was very keen. There were no elections at all at Masterton, Pahiatua and Martinborough. CARTERTON 'l'lie mayor. Mr. W. WANGANUI Wanganui, May 3. The sitting Mayor of Wanganui, Mr. N. G. Armstrong, was returned by a majority of 926. The final figures were:— Armstrong ' 4814 J. T. Hogan 3888 Two years ago Mr. Armstrong headed Mr. W. J. Rogers by 149 votes. Yesterday was the wettest, polling day in Wanganui on record, heavy rain falling all day.
