DISTANCE FLYERS

Record-breakers Return to England GREAT PRAISE FOR PLANE Official Wireless. Rugby, May 2. Squadron-Leader Gayford and Flight-Lieutenant Nicholetts, who won for Britain the world non-stop longdistance record by a 5309 miles flight from Cranwell to Walfls Bay, reached England to-day. They’ have flown back from South Africa in easy stages, and on landing at Farnborough, Hampshire, were greeted by the Air Minister, Lord Londonderry, and many officials and friends. The airmen praised highly the huge Fairey Napier monoplane. They said they knew before they started the flight they would not reach Cape Town and expected to come down near Walfls Bay. They then had fourteen gallons of petrol left, and 130 gallons would have been required to reach the Cape. Neither of the airmen slept during the 57 hours’ flight.
