OBITUARY

Mrs. S. Forman The death occurred at Masteriou vesterdav of .Mrs. S. Forman, ar. the ago of 65 years, states a “Dominion” Special Service message. The late Mrs. Forman had resided in the district for many years, and bad a wide circle of friends. Her husband predeceased her about four years ago. She is survived by a family of three daughters, Mrs. N. Aitken, Wellington, Mrs. T. Pritchard, Trontham, and Mrs. R. Baker, Sydney, and one son, Mr. G. Forman, Masterton. Mr. W. B. McEwan The late Mr. William Barber M<> Ewan. Dunedin city librarian for 25 years, whose death was reported on Tuesdav, was born in Edinburgh 63 years ago. In 1903 he was appointed chief librarian of the Stirling (Scotland) .Library, later coming to New Zealand. After occupying positions in Auckland and on tlie West Coast, he was appointed chief librarian of the Public Library, Dunedin, then about to be opened in 1908. Mr. McEwan was an intense lover of Robert Burns, and his addresses on the poet, and Sir 'Walter Scott, were given in centres beyond Otago, while his papers on these writers were widely road. School libraries were introduced by the deceased, and are now firmly established. lie made a feature of the McNab section of tlie library, and its valuable collection of New Zealand books. He also established a library of Burns’s works. He was president of tlie Burns Club, and a prominent Free Mason. lie Is survived by a widow, four sous, ami two daughters.
