Wallet and Money Taken
Charged with stealing a wallet and money of a total value of £2, two labourers. Horace Henry Smith, aged 33, and Harry Newman, aged 33. pleaded guilty before Mr. I'l. Page, S.M.. at the Police Court yesterday. They were each sentenced to three months' imprisonment. Sub-inspector Martin said that the owner of the wallet, Hector Wallace, was met by I lie two accused on April 22 in Cuba Street. The pair, who wore strangers Io Wallace, engaged him in conversation, at the same time holding the lapel of his coat. Between them they managed to extract I lie wallet from his coat pocket, and it was not. until a few minutes after they had left him that he discovered his loss. Accused bad been under the influence of liquor at the time, said Mr. W. F. Ongley. who appeared for them. Neither had been in trouble previously for about two and a half years, and both were now on relief work.
