Woman Hurt by Splinters By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, May 2. 'The tragic sequel tn a. trilling acddeut was described in the Coroner’s Court, uf; the inquest ou Mrs. Amelia Totten, aged 51. Mrs. Talton’s husband said that on April I I. he was chopping wood in the back yard and a small piece, which Hew up. struck his wife on the ankle. The wound was bathed and disinfected and ointment applied. Next morning Hit' splinler was removed. There was no furl her I rouble till Aprd. 25, when another splinter was removed. Litter a soreness of Ihe face and longue developed and Mrs. fatten could get no sleep. On April 27 medical aid was called and she. was removed to the hospital, where she died on April 30. The husband said that the splinters were from a piece of kauri which had evidently been lying in the sea for years. It had a strong fishy smell.
