Gone arc the dull days of rain. No longer are drab, uninteresting clothes the order of a rainy day. Gay colours, reds, blues, greens and their complements reign supreme for hats and coats.

Umbrellas only cling with tenacious fingers to their useful, workaday blackness. Here and there, admittedly, a bright spirit wields a triumphant scarlet brolly. But these “oases” in a desert of drabness are, oasis like, few and far between; even the dullness of a useful black umbrella becomes beauty when rain silvered, but who looks for beauty in a. brolly? Some of the latest ideas for wintry weather are really splendid. Have you seen those quaint zip gaiter boots? Made of light, strong oilskin, fitting close over the shoes, with only a space fo- the heel, and a fascinating “zip" right, up to the knee. Easy to slip on, comfortable and smart, these “gaiters” will doubtless prove very popular in the coming winter. One is amazed at the number of unprotected legs to be seen on a really wet day. Don’t people mind colds, or do they just trust blindly to luck to keep them fit? Woollen gaiters nowadays arc so cheap, so pretty, and so easy to pop into a coat pocket if the sun comes out, that it seems impossible that everyone does not possess a pair; Another thing which seems strange is the number of fur coats, bedraggled and rather miserable, that inadequately protect, their owners on wet days. So bad for your coat and uncomfortable for you. Warmer perhaps—but woolly jumpers and scarves, so easy to make, and cheap to buy, are vital necessities to every woman. So milady of 1933 need never feel cold.
