LORD WA VERTREE DEAD

London, Feb. 2. The death is announced of Lord Wavertree.

Lord Wavertree was the first baron of that name, and was born in 1856, being a son of the late Sir Andrew Barclay Walker. He was educated at Harrow, and had always been a great sportsman, riding in point-to-point races; he bred and owned Minoru, which won the Derby for King Edward VII. His horse Soarer won the Grand National, and he won the National Hunt Steeples with Glen Royal. He presented his stud of horses to the nation in 1916 with the object of starting a national stud. For 20 years he was member of Parliament for the Widnes Division of Lancs. His wife is prominent in tennis.
