Mr. D. E. Wanklyn arrived from the south yesterday morning. Mr. J. Studholme, Riccarton, has left for the South Island. , Mr. R. 11. Livingstone arrived yesterday morning from the South Island. .Mr. A. Paul, Collector of Customs at Wellington, left on Thursday evening on a holiday visit to the South Island. Mr. C. M. Ollivier was among the passengers from the south yesterday morning. Captain and Mrs. Dillner, Dunedin, arrived from the south yesterday morning. Mr. C. M. Ollivier, of Christchurch, was a passenger from Lyttelton by the Rangatira yesterday. The Hon. Sir William Hall-Jones has been granted six days’ leave of absence from the Legislative Council, on account of illness. The Rev. J. R. Blanchard has returned from a holiday at Otaki beach and will resume his ministry in St. John’s Church to-morrow. Mr.- Louden, chairman of the Otago Harbour Board, and Mr. Renton, secretary to the board, returned to the south on Thursday. Messrs. J. Brunton. G. N. Magill, and R. Mackay were among the passengers who left Wellington yesterday afternoon by the Mara ma for Sydney. Mr. M. A. Eliott and Dr. E. Marsden have been reappointed members of the Board of Governors of the New Zealand Institute. The Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, Prime Minister, left. Wellington last evening by the ferry steamer for Lyttelton. He wilt spend the week-end at his home at Cheviot. Mr. Harold Evans, a champion Australian surfman. arrived in Wellington from Australia this week, and intends to live here permanently. For the past thirteen years Mr. Evans has been captain of the North Steyne Surf Club, Manly, crew, the champion surf boat crew of Australia. A few seasons ago at Bronte he rescued three boat loads of juniors from terrific seas. Mr. Evans Is also the holder of a surf award of merit for a rescue lie performed.
