NEW ZEALAND FISH
Australian Customs Problem Sydney, Jan. 26. The Customs authorities have been set a problem over the fish cargo brought from New Zealand waters by the trawler Alfie Cain. The vessel, which is owned in Australia, called at Manukau to land a man for medical treatment. Having thus touched New Zealand, the point is w’hether the fish in her holds, largely New Zealand varieties, which, if brought here by trading vessels, would be subject to 10 per cent, primage duty, is liable. Customs officers boarded the Alfie Cam and sent a report to Canberra, but the general opinion is that duty will not be imposed.
