Wellington representative cricket team arrived back front Auckland yesterday.! and spoke in glowing terms of the hospitality they had received in the north ern capital. . | There was keen competition for the bat presented by Messrs Gradidge andl Co., the well-known firm of Englishi batmakers, for the highest score record-' ed in the .Shield match at Auckland. A., J. I’ostles (Auckland) started off well with 102. Then E. IV. Tindill, the Wel-i lington colt, who was making a first appearance in a Shield match, hit up 106. but his captain, K. C. James, went better with lOS. James, however, to reward Tindill for his splendid knock, waived his right to the bat, which was handed over to Mr. R. F. Steele, manager of the Wellington team, for presentation to Tindill in Wellington. The Nelson colt, D. L. Freeman, who also was making a first appearance in Shield cricket, also received a bat from' the New Zealand Bat Company in re-j cognition of his brilliant bowling performances in both innings.
