Gallops at Ellerslie FINAL WORK FINISHED By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Jan. 26. 'The final gallops for the Takapuna meeting were done at Ellerslie this morning, when the course proper, with poles 20 feet out, the closest they have ever been to the inside rails, also the No. 1 grass and tan tracks, were in use. The weather was ideal. The best efforts were recorded by Ruling King and Chief On tlie course proper Ruling King was firsit to appear, being allotted half a m-le, which he completed in 50 3-ssec. He carried a good weight, and it was a first-class gallop. Chief Cook, Psychologist, and Schizanthus jumped away together at the five furlongs post, and, after running two furlongs in 25sec., recorded lmin. 3 1-usec. for the full distance. Schizanthus, who had much the best of the weights, was in front throughout, but Chief Cook was going nicely, and Psychologist was also finishing on. On the No. 1 grass track Brampton and Angisi ran home from the half-mile post in 53 l-ssec., the former finishing in front, Neil traversed a round in 2min. 3 2-ssec., without doing his best at any part. Karangapai showed his customary speed over half a mile, running the distance in 48 4-5 see. He carried a solid weight, and did hisi work impressively. At Takanini the track was in excellent order. All the fast galloping was done on tlie inside grass, the poles being 25 feet out. Principal and Imperial Prince were companions over-a mile, Principal finishing a head in front in lmin. 48sec. Tironui and tlie Magpie gelding, who has been working some time, sprinted five furlongs in lmin. 3 l-ssec. Greek Gold and Gold Pocket jumped off to go half a mile, but after going two furlongs something went wrong with the gear of Gold Pocket, who was then pulled up, and Greek Gold went on to run half a mile in 52sec. After getting slightly tlie worst of the start King Mestor was soon three lengths in front of Solomon, and he beat him easily over half a mile in 50 3-ssec. Lord Willonyx was half a length in front of Chief Joy, with Marmorate two lengths away, after galloping five furlongs in Imm. 4 2-ssec. WORK ON THE TRACKS Jottings from Hastings Dominion Special Service. Hastings, Jan. 26. Several gallops were held here this morning. The weather is perfect, and tlie tracks are in excellent order for galloping. 'Dre grass was used more extensively than the plough. There were no gallops of an outstanding nature. Princess Bell finished in front of Cuticle over the last five of six furlongs on the plough in 1.5, doing it well. "Royal Court and Dusky Crown did five furlongs on the gras's in 1.8, the former finishing in front. Sylvan Dell and Shrewd galloped once round on the plough in 1.43, Shrewd doing it well. He is a fit horse. High. Grader by himself did tlie last four of six furlongs on the grass in 50 4-5, doing it attractively. Sabatini by himself galloped six furlongs on the plough in 1.20, moving with freedom. Goshawk did the last six furlongs on the grass of a once round in 1.20. He appeared to be distressed. Bernera, Royal Parade, and Bradman on tlie grass, jumped off in that order from the five-furlong peg, and ran the distance in 1.3, Bernera and Bradman pleasing. Head Sevang and White Fang dashed over six furlongs on the grass' in 1.184, the latter in front, moving nicely. Court Lady by herself, witli a light weight, sprinted six furlongs on the plough in 1.20}. She did not finish too well. Squeeze had two lengths’ advantage on Redbank in a sprint over six furlongs on the grass in I.lB}. Royal Highness over the same distance took 1.17 J. He is on the improve. Sunstead galloped the last four of six furlongs on the grass in 52. Grand Sport, Sir Nigel, Oil Painting, and the Psychology —Sunny Roe filly worked a couple of rounds on the plough at a steady pace. Hybiscus and the three-year-old by Arausio—Hoy dashed over five furlongs on the grass in 1.3}, the latter doing it nicely. Slippery, Tahoma, Royal Songster, Lavina and Brambletorn, looking none the worse for their recent engagements, did light tasks. Gold Ruler ran the last four of six furlongs on the grass in 53.
