VAUDEVILLE REVIEW
“Pleasure Bound” on Saturday Frank Neil’s talented vaudeville revue company, which is to make its first appearance here in the musical extravaganza, "Pleasure Bound,” at the Grand Opera House next Saturday afternoon, under direction of J. C. Williamson, Ltd., attracted record audiences in Auckland for no less than 54 performances, easily the longest season ever enjoyed by a company at His Majesty’s Theatre. So large was the demand for seats that two performances daily were given. The company, which numbers over 40 people, is headed by Ella Shields and George Wallace. Miss Shields's name became a household word in England, America, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand through her brilliant impersonation of male characters, particularly that of “Burlington Bertie," but since the days when she first sang the latter number she has appeared in a number of musical comedies and revues, and it is said that in her latest songs, which she introduces in “Pleasure Bound,” she has achieved her most noted triumphs. New Zealanders have pleasant memories of George Wallace, and he is unquestionably one of the funniest comedians the Australian stage has known. It is said that he. too. is now better and more humorous than at any previous time in his very successful career.
