CHECK TO LOSSES
New South Wales Railways REDUCTION OF DEFICIT Sydney, Jan. 25. The Premier, Mr. B. S. Stevens, says that railway losses have been checked as the result of the Government’s transport* policy. Although the full effect cannot now be expected until next year, the deficits on the railways and tramways, which last year were £4,50i),000 and £300,000 respectively, will be reduced to half those amounts in the current year. T-he two objectives sought were divorcement of transport from a type of political control which produced inefficiency - and loss and securing services helpful to the essential industries and the comfort of the travelling public. ____________
