Values at the Addington market to-day were considerably affected by the new export schedule influenced by the higher exchange. there being a general advance in ail sections. Keen Competition at Masterton Dominion Special Service, Masterton. Jan. 25. A. yarding consisting of 1296 sheep, 30 head of cattle, and 72 pigs, was offered to a large attendance of farmers by the New Zealand Farmers ’Co-operative Distributing Company, Limited, at the Masterton sale to-day. As was to be expected, all classes of store sheep advanced from 2/- to 2/6 per head in sympathy with the export prices. There was keen competition for all classes, and a total clearance was effected at auction. Cattle also advanced about 10/- per head, while pigs sold well. The following were the prices Fat sheep: Light fat wethers, 13/- to 14/7; fat ewes, 7/3, 7/6, 7/11 to 8/-: light do., 6/- to 6/7. A fair entry, the bulk of which consisted of lambs, was submitted to a good attendance by Dalgety and Co.. the Loan and Mercantile Agency, and Wright, Stephenson and Co., at the Masterton sale. The competition was- very keen for all classes, lamb prices showing a marked advance on recent sales. Prices: Best b.f. rape lambs, 11/7 to 10/16; good shorn wether lambs, 9/6 to 10/6; ditto, ewe lambs, 9/9; fat shorn wether lambs, 11/3; medium b.f. lambs, 7/1 ; small lambs, 4/9 to 5/8; 2.4, and 6-th ewes (small), 10/6; 4 and 5-yr. ewes, 8/6; fat ewes, 6/-. Burnside Lambs in Good Demand By Telegraph—Press Association. .Dunedin, Jan. 25. Best quality beef advanced in value at the Burnside sales to-day, the rise beiug from 10/- to 15/- per head. There was also a rise in sheep prices in some cases, the highest rates for several months being realised. While freezing buyers were responsible for keeping the value of light sheep a little above that of previous sales, pigs did not meet with a very spirited sale, and prices were slightly easier. Lambs were in good demand, and prices showed an advance of about 2/per head. ’ There was a yarding of 240 head of fat cattle. The entry included two races of exceptionally good quality bullocks, several pens of plain bullocks and cows. The top price obtained for prime heavy bullocks was £ll/2/6, while two other lines brought from £9/10/- to £lO/17/6. The balance of bullocks sold from £8 and £9. Cows sold nt late rates, from £3 to £5, while a line of choice heifers brought £7/5/-. Other lines of heifers sold from £5 to £6. Light ox beef was worth 20/-; choice heavy beef, 22/-; choice heifers, 20/-; and cows, 14/- to 15/- per 1001 b. In a penning of 2300 sheep, there were several trucks of extra heavy wethers, and a fair number of young ewes. Export buyers were keen bidders for light sheep, and consequently these sold at an advance of about 1/6 per bead. Light wethers brought to 15/- per head, and ewes suitable for the export trade, from 7/- to 9/--Extra heavy wethers sold from 17/- to 19/-; ewes, 10/- to 12/-: ewes were worth from ltd to 2d, and wethers 2ld to 3d per lb. The lamb entry was not a large one, but included several pens of good quality animals. The yarding sold under keen competition. Prime lambs realised to 17/9; medium. 13/- to 14/-, and light. 10/6 to H/6 per head. There was a pqor representation in the store cattle pens. Aged cows predominated. There was little life in the sale. Cows sold from £l/10/- to £3/10/-. In the pig section. 211 fats and 101 stores were offered. Porkers sold at a reduction of about 5/-, and bgeonors 7/6 per head. Porkers were worth about -11(1, and bacon pigs about 3}d lb. Stortford Lodge Quotations Dominion Special Service. Hastings. Jan. 25. A marked feature of to-day’s sale at Stortford Lodge was the larger entry of store cattle, there being 130 stores and 140 fats. Great interest, was displayed bv sellers as to how prices would be affected bv the increased exchange rate. Prices obtained last week were from £6 to £7/2/- for prime heavy bullocks, and these went to £7/6/-. Other prices rose accordingly. „ „ Some beautiful bullock beef was offered. realising to £7/6/- for three Ilcrefords. Heifers made good prices, being up 25/- and more Fat eows were m> considerabiy. realising £5. Results generally were not as satisfactory as expected.
