VIGOROUS BOXING
George Cook Outpointed by Walter Neusel UNPOPULAR DECISION By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received Jan. 24, 7.20 p.m.) London, Jan. 24. At the Albert Hall, in a twelve rounds bout,, the German, Walter Neusel, outpointed George Coqlt, Australia. Cook was accompanied by his wife, who kissed him twice as he entered the ring. Neusel opened, punching powerfully, and rattled Cook with three ‘ upperciits. The Australian, who is fleetfooted, punished the German with his favourite left hook to the jaw. Neusel exploited his-longer reach, scoring several lefts, but failed to evade Cook, and stopped repeated heavy rights to the jaw. Cook’s greater experience often nonplussed the German. The tight continued even. In the seventh round Cook forced the German to his corner, and sent a terrific right to the jaw. Neusel’s counters were not affecting the stocky Australian, who was even more vigorous in the fighting that followed. Cook was magnificent, leaving nothing to chance, and exhibiting sound defence. In the ninth round Cook rushed the German to the ropes, but was steadied by a tremendous left hook, the German scoring with both hands, while in the tenth vicious rights sent the Australian’s head back. Apparently he was beaten, but he returned, fighting like fury. In the last round both stood exchanging punches. Cook in his eagerness to land a terrific right, swung himself to the floor. The decision was greeted by several minutes’ booing when it was announced. - Cook is 35 years old to-day. He had a wonderful ovation.
