Reception to Mr. and Mrs. E. Lutyens BISHOPSCOURT DECORATED The spacious rooms at Bisbopscourt were artistically decorated with deep pink and blue hydrangeas and French marigolds last night, when Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Coleridge held a reception for Mr. and Mrs. E. Lutyens, England. Mr. Coleridge, who is secretary of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, and Mrs. Coleridge invited the practising architects of "Wellington to meet Mr. and Mrs. Lutyens. Mr. Lutyens is well known in London architectural circles and is the nephew of the famous Sir Edwin Lutyens, while his wife was formerly Miss Barton, a New Zealander. The guests were received in the front hall by Mr. and Mrs. Coleridge and were presented to the guests of honour. Mrs. Coleridge was wearing a very smart frock of deep red marocain under, a brocaded short coat in shades of rose and gold. Mrs. Sprott wore a softly draped black georgette frock with tulle scarf. Miss Campbell was in a pale silver grey satin crepe frock touched with black and white embroidery. Mrs. Lutyens wore a handsome frock of scarlet georgette lightly embroidered in brilliants, and a sport black velvet coat. The drawing-room was transformed into a miniature lecture hall, where a

most interesting speech (reported etsewhere) was given by Mr. Lutyens, who was introduced by Mr. F. E. Greenish, chairman of the Wellington branch of the N.Z.I.A. WELLINGTON SINGER Tribute Paid in London Miss Ailsa Nicol, formerly of Lower Hutt, who has been studying voice production at the Royal Academy of Music, London, under Professor Meaux, had a very nice compliment paid her after a recent academy concert at which she sang. This came from Dr. Ben Davies, at one time England’s leading concert and oratorio tenor, who said that he wished to congratulate her on the way sh# sang, and her teacher on the way she had been taught. When the last mail loft, Miss Nicol was to play the role of Hansel in an academy production of Tlnmperdink’s opera. “Hansel and Gretel.” Miss Nicol will probably leave London for Wellington in July next.
