London, Jan. 20.
Fears entertained in some quarters for the safety of Captain Hope and his assistant, Pilot Heanly, who are making a search in the Alps for the missing aviator, Squadron-Leader Hinkler, were dispelled to-day. The airmen returned to Veytroux this afternoon. They had spent the night on the Diablerets. having made a perfect landing in a field in order to proceed on foot to examine an object which from the air was mistaken for a derelict aeroplane. Captain Hope and his- companion landed near a village in the Simplon Valley, and continued their search on foot in the direction of Diablerets, where Captain Hope believed he had seen traces of Mr. Hinkler. Captain Hope has telegraphed to the London committee that he will continue the ground search, but requires the assistance of two Englishmen.
LADY BAILEY’S RESCUE Worn Out by Experiences SEARCH PLANE MISSING (Received Jan. 22, 6.30 p.m.) Paris, Jan. 21. The “Midi” interviewed one of Lady Bailey’s rescuers, who said that she was very pale and worn out by her effort of flying when not too well. She was only able to crawl out of the cockpit with great difficulty. She had eaten practically nothing since she landed. She was very feverish, but smiled and waved her hand when she saw the rescue party. One of the four French aeroplanes sent out from Oran, Algeria, to search for Lady Bailey has not returned. It carried two non-commissioned officers. A search is in progress.
