VARIED ATTRACTIONS
An attractive programme of outdoor events has been arranged for to-day’s Anniversary holiday. The last day of the Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting at Trentham should attract a big crowd. Special trains will be run at frequent intervals!
The finals of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association's championships will be played on the Miramar courts, and a combined doubles tournament will be conducted in the Hutt Valley. The annual regatta of the Wellington Provincial Yacht and Motor-boat Association will be held at Evans Bay. Followers of cricket will have a variety of matches to choose from. Wairarapa will play Hutt on the Hutt Recreation Ground, and a Mauawatu eleven will engage a Kilbiruie team on the Kilbiruie ground. The Wellington Cricket Association will play a number of inter-grade matches on the Basin Reserve, and the Mercantile League will play inter-grade matches on Kelburn Park.
The Wellington Rifle Association’s annual prize meeting will be held at Trentham.
Those who wish to go further afield will be able to join the Rangatira’s excursion trip to Picton, or attend the amateur athletic meeting at Masterton, for which a train will leave Lambton station at 7.50 a.m. Athletic sports will also be held at Porirua and Otakl. The Railway Department, will ruu special trains to Pllmmerton and Paekakariki, and the Eastbourne Borough Council will see to it that boats and buses leave the. city at frequent intervals for Day’s Bay, Eastbourne, and Muritai. The Railway Department will make special concessions for those who wish to travel as far as Palmerston North, The Early Settlers’ and Historical Association will celebrate the anniversary at a gathering in the Oddfellows’ Hail, Clyde Quay.
