Wellington’s Great Score

After a record partnership of 305 runs by Monteath and Holiings for the fifth wicket, Wellington scored 428 runs tor nine wickets on the second day of their match against Midland on the Hutt Rccreatiou Ground, winning the match bw 97 runs on the first innings. Wellington started poorly, and four wickets had I alien for 43 runs, when Holiings and Monteath became associated. They punished the bowling severely, and were not separated until after the Midland total bad been passed, when Holiings was dean bowled by Baker. He finished in a blaze of glory, hitting a four and a six off successive balls, and was attempting to send the next ball over the boundary when he lost ins wicket being caught off O'Neill. H e was dropped oil' the same bowler when 17. His score of 148 runs included IS fours and a six, and the score was ths u five wickets for 348. Bright batting Hvas seen during the re mainder of the match, but none of the batsmen lasted very long. Monteath was dismissed with the last ball of the match, right on 6.30 o’clock.
