SWIMMER DROWNED

Bathing at Mouth of Tangimoana River

CARRIED OUT TO SEA

Dominion Special Service.

Tangimoana, Jan. 22.

Under-estimating the strength of the currant at the mouth of the Rangitikie River, at Tangimoana, this afternoon, Edwin Webster, aged 38, was unable to attain safety, and was carried out to sea and drowned. His body has not yet been recovered. It appears that Mr, Webster and Mr. L. Pask, both of whom were employed on an Awahurl (Palmerston North) farm, were swimming at the river mouth when they got into difficulties. Mr. Pask managed to reach the shore, but Mr. Webster, a weaker swimmer, was carried away by the current.

The police were notified, and search parties were immediately organised. Deceased was a single man, and had no relatives in New Zealand.
