Meeting of Association PLANS FOR THE SEASON A full attendance of delegates was present at a meeting of the Wellington Amateur Rowing Association last evening, when several items of importance were discussed. Those present were: Mr. K. Duncan (chairman), and Messrs. A. W bne, A. E. Jones, D. G. Gray, G. Cooke, G. Dixon, R. Stanly,- R. Meech, J. Delaney, and J. E. Scanlon (secretary). The programme and the date tor the annual Wellington regatta were submitted by letter from the Wellington Regatta 'Club and approved, though it was remarked that the Regatta Club was out of order in circulating the programme throughout New Zealand betore approval was given. r ~ The programme is as follows; Maiden pairs, youths’ fours, junior pairs, maiden fours, senior singles (for Pearce Gup), junior welterweight fours, senior lours, maiden double sculls, lightweight maiden fours, junior fours, junior singles (for Bridson Cup), senior pairs. Ibe first race will commence at noon. The Regatta Club notified its willingness to control the management, ol the interprovincial eight-oared championship, to be held on Wellington harbour on April 1, and asked the association for financial assistance. In view of tlie necessity ot helping the Regatta Club with Ibe finances for both the eight-oared fixture and the Wellington Regatta, the meeting decided to enlist the co-operation of the letone. Star, and Wellington Rowing Chibs by requesting them to organise special dances, the net proceeds to go to the Begat la Club. , , The suggestion was that these dances should be held on the night of the wterclub eights. Petone delegates said that they felt the city clubs should do more to (assist than they had done in tue 1 At the request of the Star Boating Club the meeting decided to postpone the date of the Mothes Shield Regatta from January 28 to February 4, thus permitting the Star club to send representatives to the Hamilton regatta ou January 30, which is Anniversary Day in the Auckland province. The programme and order of events 10l the Mothes Shield Regatta was confirmed as follow: Junior fours, maiden double sculls, maiden fours, lightweight maiden fours, maiden single sculls, senior fours, junior pairs, youths’ fours, maiden pairs, welterweight junior fours, senior pairs. The first race is timed to commence at Z p.m., and the last race at 4.45 p.m. . Officials for the regatta were decided upon as follow: Starter, Mr. W. Fraser; umpires, the three club captains; judges, Messrs. F. W. Mothes (donor of the shield), A. D. Bayfield, and E. S. Innes; clerks of scales, Messrs. J. E. Scanlon and A. E. Jones. The annual inter-dub eight-oared contest; was fixed for March 11, it being stipulated that the winning club in the Mothes Shield contest should put in two crews for the eights, thus providing n good programme of two heats and the ■final in the eight-oared contest. A proposal that a selection, committee of three should' chose the Wellington provincial eight-oared crew was defeated, and Mr. R. Sutherland was appointed as sole selector and coach, which offices he filled last year. In response to certain criticism, several of the delegates stated that they saw no objection to the selector getting other, assistance botli in selecting and coaching the crew. Each of the local clubs is to be restricted to eight nominations for this crew, and nominations are to be accompanied by .particulars as to ages, weights and heights of the men nominated. An offer to present the association with a new trophy for local inter-club competition during December from an anonymous supporter of the sport. The idea is to give regatta crews a chance ot open competition immediately prior to the annual Pieton regatta, as well as to give the public more rowing interest in the early part of the season. The offer was accepted, and it is expected that full details will be available when the donor is notified. The Norman Dunean Memorial Race, commemorating the memory of.the late Mr. Norman Duncan, who died -last season, son of Councillor Duncan, will.be rowed to a conclusion by Star Boating Club members on Saturday afternoon. Nominations close at 2 p.m. Later in the afternoon the annual swimming race for the J. G. Dunean Cup. will take place in the harbour. The Council of the N.Z.A.R.A. has approved the following programme for the New Zealand Championship Regatta, to be held on March 4:— 2 p.m., lightweight maiden fours; 2.20 p.m., New Zealand championship single sculls; 2.40 p.m.. youths’ fours: 3 p.m., maiden single sculls; 3.20 p.m.. New Zealand championship senior fours; 3.40 p.m.. maideTi fours (open) ; 4 p.m., maiden double sculls; 4.20 p.m.. New Zealand championship double sculls ; 4.40 . p.m., junior fours (clinker) ; 5 p.m., junior double sculls; 5.20 p.m.. New Zealand championship pair oar; 5.40 p.m., junior fours (welterweight) ; 6 p.m., consolation fours. The total of the donations is £166 for thirteen events.
