Donnelly,- - chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council, who is at present in Australia, attended a recent meeting of the Australian Board or Control in Melbourne, and made representations concerning visits by Australian teams to the Dominion. As a result, the New Zealand Cricket Council is to be asked to submit proposals and a for a tour by an Australian team next season. In commenting upon business transacted by the Australian Board of Control at its recent meeting, Mr. J. C. Davis, of the “Referee” (Sydney), expressed the opinion that Australia owed something to cricket in the southern seas. The matter of future Eng-; lish teams, after visiting Australia, go-, ing on to New Zealand, had been fore the Australian Board, he stated, but so far nothing definite had been determined. There should be no hesitation about falling into line with, England and New Zealand. Australian, leaders in cricket these days, speaking! in a broad sense, were not realisingi that the country owed something to cricket It should sponsor the game in all parts of the Southern; Hemisphere. Australia, in relation to New Zealand, should play the- paternal part shown by New South Wales to Queens J land, and_ by Victoria to Tasmania,} with the idea of developing a higher' standard in the Dominion, and in- 1 cidentally, providing its mor.e brilliant; and younger cricketers with broaden-, ing experience to fit them for the tour 1 in England. . . I Failing to do this the board should sanction one of the States undertaking the work. One was sure that a splendid New South Wales team could be chosen at almost any time mutually acceptable to visit New Zealand.
