WRITHING IN CELL
Furnace Dies from Poison INCOHERENT CRIES / (Received Jan. 17, 7 p.m.) London, Jan. 17. Samuel J Furnace, detained on a charge of murdering Walter Spatchett, whose body was found amid the ruins of a burned shed at Chalk Farm, was found writhing in his cell and was rushed to hospital, where he died some hours later. His illness was symptomatic of poisoning by spirits of salts. His wife was present, and a detective at the bedside was trying to make some sense of his incoherent cries. The police are mystified as to how Furnace concealed poison. He was stripped and his clothes were thoroughly searched.
