BOYS GIVEN WORK

Encouraging Results MAKING VACANCIES Encouraging results are being obtained by the Boy Employment Committee in Wellington, and business houses are reporting that boys who have been secured through the committee are giving satisfaction. In a number of cases business houses have made special arrangements, and have gone to considerable trouble to make vacancies for additional boys. The immediate aim of the committee is to secure 40 more positions for boys before the campaign closes after three more days. At the close of this special effort the work of registering and placing unemployed boys will be carried on at the Y.M.C.A. offices. Last Tuesday 18 applications for boys were received through the committee’s activity. It is believed that if the public will show a little more inclination to put money in circulation the reflection in trade will induce many employers to find vacancies for boys. The name-finding competition, in which a large number of city and suburban shops are concerned, has proved popular. Articles are labelled with the names of residents of Wellington. and the persons named may claim the selected goods when they locate them. Hundreds of additional names have been supplied to a total of over .100 shops for the continuation of the competition to-day.
