DEATH OF SECRETARY

Manawatu Racing Club REVOLVER NEAR BODY Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, Dec. 14. A well-known citizen of Palmerston North, Victor Thomas Dibble, secretary of the Manawatu Racing Club, was found dead under some trees near the grandstand at the racecourse at Awapuni this morning. It is stated that Mr. Andrews, one of the caretakers at the course, saw deceased drive into the grounds in bis car. Mr. B. J. Jacobs, who arrived shortly afterward, and Mr. Andrews conducted a search for Mr. Dibble, finding his car under the trees near the main stand. A few minutes later the body of Mr. Dibble was found with a five-chambered revolver lying close by. Deceased appeared to have met his death as the result of a revolver bullet having entered his chest. The late Mr. Dibble came to Palmerston North a little over two years ago to succeed the late Mr. J. M. Johnston as secretary of the Manawatu Racing Club. Before that Mr. Dibble was assistant secretary of the Auckland club. Mr. Dibble was chairman of the citizens’ show committee, secretary of the Manawatu branch of the Red Cross Society, and an enthusiastic member of Palmerston North Rotary Club. He saw service in the Great War and was severely wounded. The late Mr. Dibble leaves a wife and one child.-
