Liberation of Pheasants The Council of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society last night, ou the recommendation of the Game Commit tee, decided tc allocate 600 pheasants as follows: —Pahiatua 50, Levin 50, Whitetqan’s Valley 15, Akatarawa 15, Pabuutanul-Moonshine 10, Waiuui-o-mata 35, Belmont (Pahautanul) .10, Johnsonville 10, Gollans Valley 15, Mungaroa 10. Palmerston North 90, Shannon 15, Makerua 5, Tokomaru 20, Turakina 25, Marton 40, Hunterville 20, Mangaweka 20. Taihape 40, Otaki 15, Te Horo 10, Wairongomai (South Wairarapa.) 30, Wairarapa North 25, "Wards 10, Raumati 10, and Margin 5. The curator of the Masterton hatchery advised that the following liberations of rainbow trout fry had been made during 1932Taihape 55.000, Mangaweka 25,000, Hunterville 5000, Oroua 35,000, Mnngahau 20,000, Kourara 5000, Mastertou 5000; total, 150,000. Mr. D. Cox, Mangamaire, wrote, asking if it would be possible to obtain a permit to cull some of tbe deer around the Tararun ranges, at the back of Pahiatua. The herd around there was becoming very scraggy, aud be thought it would he n good idea to shoot a number of the culls. It was decided to reply that there was re protection for deer in that distfief. The Manawatu Racing Club advised that, it was agreeable to having the Awapunl lagoon proclaimed a sanctuary under the Animals and Game Act, 1921-22.
