Shop Manager Knocked .Unconscious INTRUDER SURPRISED Dominion Special Service. Eketahuna, Dee. 14. Entering the premises of Yates’s Cash Store, Eketahuna, to-night at about half-past eight, Charles William McLaughlin, manager of the store, surprised au intruder at the rear of the premises, and was struck over the bead with some instrument and rendered unconscious. On coming to about a quarter of an hour later he staggered into the street, and was taken to a doctor by a passer-by. The police were summoned, and on searching the building found' that entrance had been effected by forcing a window at tbe rear. Nothing appared to be disturbed in tbe shop, and there was no sign of the intruder or the weapon he used. Tbe shop is in the main street of Eketahuna, and the front portion is lit by a community lighting system. Mr. .McLaughlin returned with the intention of putting up the curtains over the shop windows, and it was with the object of obtaining tbe curtains that he went to tbe rear of the premises. He saw nothing of his assailant before the crushing blow came down on his head. In addition to rendering him unconscious, the blow inflicted a nasty wound over his eye. After receiving medical attention, however, he was able to return to his home.
