Taxicab Charges
Sir, —Doesn't four shillings for a taxi’ from Queen’s AA’harf to the Windsor Hotel seem out of all proportion.—l am. etc., TRAVELLER. AVellington, December 13. [The maximum charge per by-law scale, is 1/3 for the first third of a mile, and (id for each subsequent third of a mile. As from the Queen’s Wharf to the Windsor Hotel would probably be just over a third of a mile, the maximum charge would be 1/9, plus (id wharfage if the passenger was picked up within the wharf gates. Many taxi drivers to-day are, charging either 9d or 1/- a mile.]
