WIN FOR ELLIOT

Show Stadium Wrestling

McLAUCHLAN BEATEN Dumping his opponent with such force that he was unable to continue, King Elliot (13st 41b.) defeated Jock McLauchlan (12st.) in last evening’s professional wrestling contest at the Show Stadium. McLauchlan won the first fall in the third round with a short arm scissors, and Elliot equalised in the fifth with a dump. McLauchlan was helped to his corner, but could not resume hostilities when the gong went for the sixth. In the first round the wrestling was even and willing. The best moments, perhaps, were when Elliot tried three times to tie McLauchlan up with a swivelling wristlock. On each occasion McLauchlan spun cleverly and the swivel was ineffective. Elliot’s advantage in height and weight was noticeable, and some of McLauchlan’s moves failed on account of it. Tilings became lively in tlie second round when Elliot was caught in a short arm scissors and kicked frantically. He managed to escape before much damage was done, and troubled McLauchlan almost as badly with a reverse barred toe-hold. AV hen McLauchlan retaliated and the pair were on their feet again they indulged in a certain amount of running and jumping before resuming on the mat. A Severe Hold. Round three opened with a sensational short arm scissors applied by McLauchlan to Elliot. McLauchlan put on the hold with his usual severity and Elliot kicked and struggled in vain. He reversed several times, but it did him no good. McLauchlan’s mastery of the bold won him the first fall of the match very soon after the round had opened. Elliot nursed his arm at the interval. In the fifth round Elliot heaved McLauchlan three times to the mat from forward chanceries. When McLauchlan was rising to his feet the third time Elliot suddenly reached down, caught a crotch hold and lifted him into the air. Elliot dumped him heavily and lay on him for the equalising fall. The slam was a severe one and McLauchlan was unable to begin the sixth round. The referee, Anton Koolman, awarded the bout, therefore, to Elliot. Amateur Preliminaries. The amateur preliminaries, which were refereed by Mr. Taffy Bidder, resulted as follow:—

T. Jamieson (9.10) defeated L. Jacobs (9.8) by straight falls. C. Southwood (9.9) defeated R. Minnis (9.8) by a single fall. R. Mautner (10.3) and N. Razos (10.8) drew, fall each. G. Deacon (13.7) defeated D. Rhgsdale (14.7), by a single fall.
