Journey Through Dominion 21st BIRTHDAY ON ROAD Touring New Zealand during the university vacation, Mr. F. H. Harns, a student of Otago University, is now’ in Wellington. Although he is nominally engaged in a walking tour, he is accepting lifts wherever they are offered, as he intends being back in Dunedin before the beginning, of the 193.: university session. Mr. Harris, who celebrated his -Ist birthday on the road, is a third-year student, and hopes to complete his Bachelor of Arts course next year, and enter journalism. His trip has been undertaken with the purpose of widening his experience of life and people, and of furnishing himself with a knowledge that will prove useful is his future professional career. He left his home city, Dunedin, on November 25, and reached Christchurch after four days’ travelling. He spent five days there and reached Picton on Monday last. The next day he spent in exploring the countryside there. His intention had been to work his way across the Strait on “one of the smaller boats,” but on arrival he found that there were no smaller boats and was compelled to spend his last pound, on the boatfare to Wellington. However, he has since been fortunate enough to recoup tb To°date'he has walked 120 miles and has been given lifts over about oaO miles of the journey. . Mr. Harris left Wellington yesterday, and will go up the coast to Wanganui and New Plymouth, and thenc p to Auckland. From Auckland he will go to Whangarei, spending a fortnight in. the northern districts and returning in time to attend a K.t dent Christian Movement Confereete. He will then come down the eastern side of the island, visiting Thames, Rotorua, Napier, and Hastings, and on to Wellington, via the Wairarapa Crossing to Picton, he wi.l walk down the West Coast to Otira, over the pass and across to Rakaia and Christchurch.
