AMATEUR ATHLETICS

Sports at Basin Reserve SERIES OF TRACK EVENTS Good fields participated in a scries of track events held at the Basin Heserve last evening by the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club. In most of the races the competition was keen and some fast times were recorded. There was an excellent attendance of the public. By winning the 100 yards and 440 yards event tor secondary schools the Hutt Valley Boys’ High School gained the Blundell Cup. The victory was conclusive, for first and second places in both events were filled bj’ Hutt representatives. Following the two races the trophy was presented to A. James, one of the Hutt competitors, by Mr. A. C. Kitto, president of the WeAigtou Amateur Athletic Centre. So large were the fields m the sprint events for both men and women that several heats were necessary. The 100 yards race for women was won by Miss J. Sharp, of the Wellington club, who hud a handicap of 94 yards. The nieu’s event went to J. M. Watt, of Old Boys, who had a handicap of 6 yards.
