A REVERED PASTOR
Late Rev. G. Ireland MEMORIAL SERVICES A memorial service to the late Rev. G. Ireland was conducted at the Island Bay Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning by the Rev. R. Inglis, M.A., who preached to a large congregation from John i, 1 and 3. At the close of the address Mr. Inglis paid a high tribute to the personal character afid the ministerial service of the deceased minister. The choir rendered the anthem “Crossing tbe Bar.” Iu the evening Rey. J. H. McKenzie preached to a full congregation on the words of Christ, “I go to prepare a place for you.” Tribute from Unemployed. In connection with the funeral service, a striking incident occurred. Mr. Ireland had done a great deal for the assistance of the unemployed in the district. In recognition of this, one of them approached a church worker and asked permission for the unemployed to send a memorial wreath. He was thanked for the offer, but was told that it was too much to expect from the unemployed, as even threepence each would be the price of a loaf of bread. The reply was, “We are prepared to forgo the loaf of bread iu order to send the wreath.” A beautiful wreath was sent and laid on the coflin of tbe deceased
