Champions in Action By Telegraph.—Press Christchurch, Dee. 11. The broadsidiug season in Christchurch was opened on Saturday evening. A feature of the evening was the match race for the champions. Wally Kilmister and Charlie Biacklock. Kilinister had the inside running iu the first beat and never left the line throughout. He won by less tbau a length in linin. 28sec. In the second heat Biacklock had the inside and won by three lengths. The time was Imin. 22sec. In the third round Kilmister bad the inside and won in linin. 21sec. Biacklock fell when blinded by cinders. There were two other match races. Norman Gray beat: Jack Hobson by four lengths in Imin. 24 2-sscc. and i'eter I’hillips (Wellington) beat Reg. Ranby by three lengths in Imin. 26sec.
