Gaol Superintendent Shot OUTRAGE AT CALCUTTA (Received Nov. 20, 6.30 p.m.) Calcutta, Nov. 19. Mr. Charles Luke, superintendent of the Rajshahi Gaol, Calcutta, was shot near the gaol compound while driving with his wife and daughter. Three bullets struck Mr. Luke, who was sent to hospital. The assailant escaped, but several houses were searched and two arrests were made. One of the assailants threw a cycle in front of Mr. Luke’s car. causing him to stop. The others fired three shots, one of which fractured Mr. Luke’s jaw, but he pluckily drove the ear home, where he collapsed. He is now progressing in hospital.
