SAILORS’ FRIEND SOCIETY
The weekly concert held at the Sailors’ Friend Society, on Thursday, was somewhat out of the ordinary. In addition to vocal and elocutionary items, there were violin, banjo and saxophone solos, while some familiar airs were played upon a weird-looking but tuneful instrument, known as the phonofiddle. Community singing at the'' opening and close of the evening went with a fine swing. The performers who contributed to this programme were Miss G. Hibberd, Messrs. Bennett, Leber. .1. Walter, A. Fitzgerald, Bevan and T. Williams. Mr. P. Archer, who was at the piano, was host for, the evening.
