PLANE WRECKED
Crashed on Golf Links MISHAP AT MIRAMAR Airmen Step from Debris .MARLBOROUGH CLUB LOSS . Stalling on a turn, the Marlborough Aero Club’s Sloth, ZK-AAJ, spun and crashed on ’the Miramar golf links yesterday morning. Minor injuries were received by the pilot, Dr N. F. Boag. and his passenger, Mn T. L. R. King. The machine somersaited, and was completely wrecked. Dr Boag left Blenheim about 7 o’clock 'and after a good passage across the Strait, reached Rongotai about 7.40 a.m. He was making a series of S-turns to lose his height before going down to land on the aerodrome, when the machine lost flying speed and stalled. The nose dropped, the machine began to spin, and hit the earth. ' It struck on a mound at the sixteenth tee of the golf links, scooped, a hole out of the turf, turned over on its nose, and came to rest upside down. The two occupants of the machine then walked out from the wreckage. Both had suffered nothing more serious than bruises, although Mr. King suffered shock, and was admitted to Bowen Street Hospital. The dark blue aeroplane was hopelessly damaged. The propeller was snapped at the boss and the wings were wrenched off, the front portion and the fuselage being splintered. The engine was almost torn out of the machine. ''
Aero club officials took charge of the wreckage, removed it to a garage and locked it up; A picture of the crash appears on our illustrations page. The loss of the machine is a heavy blow to its owners, who are now an aero club without an aeroplane. The Wakefield Gift Moth ZK-AAA, which was allotted to the club, was writtenoff some time ago. i
