Wellington Branch Meeting INSPECTORS’ REPORTS The committee of the Wellington Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals met bn Wednesday, Mr. G. Mitchell presiding over a full attendance. Detailed reports concerning their activities since the previous meeting were submitted by both the town and country inspectors and the action taken by them in various cases investigated wag approved. The city inspector htfd made the usual inspections in and around the eity and in the Hutt Valley to Upper Hutt. A number of animals had been destroyed and in numerous other cases of a minor nature warnings had been issued to offenders and steps taken to prevent a recurrence of cruelty. The country inspector had visited the whole of the district from Paekakariki, through the Manawptu, as far north as Woodville and down through the Wairarapa to Featherston. Numerous complaints had been investigated and in several instances it had been found necessary to destroy the animals. A number of cases of over-stocking of paddocks were reported upon, but in each instance the owners of the stock had considered the demands of the inspector reasonable and made the necessary arrangements to transfer some of the animals to other paddocks. A reply was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs with reference to a recent deputation which waited upon him in connection with the bobby calf industry and he indicated that, various matters raised by the society were receiving attention. The committee placed on record its appreciation of the valued services rendered to the society by Mrs. G. Christie, Mrs. J. B. Kenny, Mrs. A. E. Hunt, and Mr. J. R. Salt, members of the previous committee. As a mark of appreciation of valuable services rendered over a period of twenty-five years, Mrs. C. Christie was elected an honorary member of the society.
