TRADING LEGISLATION

Question of Amendment VIEWS OF HON. R. MASTERS By Telegraph.—Press Association. Stratford, Nov. IS. Interviewed regarding the question of the repeal or amendment of the Commercial Trusts Act, the Board of Trade Act, and the Cost of Living Act, arising out of the statement made by the' Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates that a consolidation of those measures might be possible, the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. R. Masters) stated that the Prime Minister was very definite in his decision not to re- , peal the Acts in question. In this Mr. Masters, as Minister in' Charge of the legislation, concurred. Recent convictions under the Commercial Trusts Act, said Mr. Masters, demonstrated quite clearly the necessity for this legislation remaining on the Statute Book as a protection for the public against the adoption of trust methods. The question bf suitable amendments, however, was' being considered by himself, the Crown . Law Office, and his department at present, in accordance with a promise made by the Prime Minister to a deputation of businessmen which waited upon him recently in Wellington. “Traders,” said Mr. Masters, “are entitled to every consideration, and it is with a view to seeing that this consideration is given without injury to the purchasing public that the amendments are being considered.”
