DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA

Big Attraction Next Saturday The dance extravaganza which will be staged by Miss Kathleen O’Brien in the Town Hall next Saturday, November 26, at 2 p.in. and 8 p.in., in aid of the Mayor’s Distress Fund, will be under the patronage of their Excellencies the Governor-General, Lord Bledisioe and the Lady Bledisioe. The adult, intermediate and baby students have been busily rehearsing their different scenas and many varied numbers. Worthy of special mention is the Javanese dance, with its unusual rhythm, technique and bizarre costuming. The amusing burlesque, “A Nautical Tragedy,” has for its principals a damsel in distress and an heroic fisherman who rescues the maid after braving many perils. A Grecian frieze gracefully calm in its simplicity has an interesting singing accompaniment. ' Bright Irish jigs, spirited hornpipes., tap dance on tip toes, are other items of note, and the fifty tiny tots of the baby class will give a ten minutes’ demonstration. The Xmas scena in the land of long ago, with its quaintly frocked little boys and girls, jovial Father Christmas and snow fairy, is in keeping with the season, and should appeal to the children. The audience will lie taken on a short visit to the land of nursery rhymes, there to see all the dearly-loved characters of childhood quaintly portrayed. The gay Spanish scena has authentic folk dances vividly froeked in the graceful fashions of old Spain, and has for its song soloist Miss Marjorie Bennie. Messrs. T. Jenkins-and A. Grant are also appearing. •.
