Mr. Massey and Land Legislation

(From “Tho Dominion” ot Nov. 1, 1907.) At the end of the session Mr. Massey (Leader of the Opposition) is to receive a presentation from his constituents and other political supporters in Auckland in recognition of the way he opposed the new land legislation of the Government.

At the south end of Cambridge Terrace, the two lengths set apart for shrubberies are looking very well. Seats are being placed on the asphalted portions, and an asphalt path is being made from the central portion, sown in grass, to give access to these. The eyesore that is presented by the north end of the avenue Is not regretted more by the aesthetic public, Mr. Luke explains, than by the Reserves Committee, whose funds, however, will not allow for any improvements in that portion of the reserve this year.

To-day flour rose another £1 a ton, making it £l4/5/- for sacks, and, in consequence of this second rise of £1 in flour, bread will be up to 8d to-mor-row. On the last occasion that flour increased £1 in price the baker left the price of bread as it was, namely, 74d.'

“It costs £1 to feed my horse with the present high prices of feed,” said a debtor in a civil case at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning.

The crew of the Russian destroyer Skory, incited by agitators, mutinied and hoisted the red flag off Vladivostok. The destroyer then steamed into the bay and opened fire upon the town and the troops ashore. Thereupon a gunboat and three destroyers fired in reply, and the 12th artillery regiment also turned its guns on the Skory, which was riddled with shells and beached. The agitators aboard were killed and the mutineers were arrested.
